Who is the Gateway RC Club?
The model aviation club of northwest Duval County, with a paid membership of more than 100 flyers from every walk of life, income level and age group.
Founded in 1959 to enjoy and further the sport and hobby of radio-controlled model aviation.
Self-funded and self-governed under Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA) charter, rules and insurance.
Enjoys a 30+ year excellent working relationship with City of Jacksonville, Recreation and Community Services Department, at the current location since 1992.
Provides safety marshals, instructor pilots and field upkeep for the Ed White Memorial Pavilion and the model airfield at Lannie Road Park, supporting another 50+ Duval County nonmember flyers and welcoming the general public.
Provides City of Jacksonville with a regulated outlet for model flying, especially for new and visitor flyers, with $2.5M in liability insurance for the activity.
Supports the community through the Parks summer camp program and education at the Jacksonville Fair, available to conduct flight events for STEM, Boy, Cub and Girl Scout groups and USMC Toys for Tots.
Supports sports tourism and model aviation through regional competition events.
